Manabi, a Brazilian mining and logistics company, has signed a contract with Vale to establish a logistic option for its R$10.5 bn (US$4.7 bn) 25Mtpa (pellet feed) Morro do Pilar Project located in Minas Gerais State, Brazil.
The contract will allow Manabi to transport up to 25 Mtpa for 20 years, and involves the construction of a new 50-mile railway line connecting the project to the existing Vitória-Minas (EFVM) Railway operated by Vale.
The company also plans to build a slurry pipeline connecting Minas Gerais State to its private port terminal in Porto Norte Capixaba. Subject to obtaining all necessary licenses, project commissioning is expected for the last quarter of 2017, and start-up early in 2018.
