According to China Railway, in 2018, Chinese railways completed the goal of increasing shipments.
Firstly, centered on major coal production areas such as Shanxi, Shaanxi, western Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, Daqin Line (Datong-Qinhuangdao), Tanghu Line (Tangshan-Hohhot), Wari Line (Watang-Rizhao), Houyue Line (Houma-Yueshan), Ningxi Line (Nanjing-Xi’an) and Lanyu Line (Lanzhou-Chongqing) played their roles in transporting coal. The total shipments of Daqin Line, Tanghu Line and Wari Line were 451 million tons, 54.05 million tons and 33.95 million tons respectively in 2018, rising 4.3%, 491.6% and 75.6% on year.
Secondly, in terms of iron ore, there was the change from transportation by road to transportation by rail. In 2018, the shipments of iron ore at major coastal ports totaled 311 million tons, increasing 11.2% on year. Iron ore shipments at Caofeidian port and Huanghua port rose by 352.4% and 65.2% respectively.
