According to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation, the domestic steel consumption is forecast to decrease 0.5 percent this year compared with the 2018 prediction amounting to 62.63 million tons, of which ordinary steel consumption will be likely 49.34 million tons, down 0.4 percent and specialty steel demand to 13.29 million tons, down 0.9 percent respectively.
Steel export is expected to rise slightly however, while steel imports will remain stayed at the same level as in the previous year, leading the entire crude steel production to exceeding slightly over 2018.
