In January, China-sourced aluminum foils reined the Korean market with the 89 percent share of the total imports. According to the Korea International Trade Association statistics, Korea’s January export of aluminum foils were 6,629 metric tons, rising as much as 18.5 percent over December last year of 5593 metric tons, while imports increased 13.2 percent over a year earlier of 5,488 metric tons to 6,212 metric tons respectively.
Chinese materials which accounted for 90.4 percent of the total aluminum foils imports last year decreased 89 percent in January this year, totaling 5,532 metric tons.
Chinese aluminum imports into the Korean market registered 32,055 metric tons in 2015; 40,243 metric tons in 2016; and 49,152 metric tons in 2017, while posting 63,729 metric tons last year.
Meanwhile, Japanese aluminum foils came to the second whereas followed by Germany, and Malaysia. Import from Japan were 246 metric tons, and those from Germany 166 metric tons and from Malaysia 73 tons, representing penetration ratios of 3.3%, 1.7% and 1.0% respectively.
