In January, Chinese aluminum flat product imports occupied 80.1 percent of the total import for Korea, Korea International Trade Association(KITA) released. According to KITA statistics, Korea’s aluminum flat product exports increased 13.2 percent from 49,737 metric tons previously totaling 56,324 metric tons, or 14 percent larger than the prior month of 49,398 metric tons. Aluminum flat imports totaled 40,461 metric tons in January, surging little better than 25.5 percent from 32,238 metric tons a year ago.
Chinese aluminum flat imports accounted for 75.8 percent of the total imports last year soared 80.1 percent in January this year, while Chinese aluminum flat imports reached 32,396 metric tons of total import of 40,461 metric tons. The share of Chinese materials continued to rise from 64.4 percent in 2014, to 69.4 percent in 2015 and 53.3 percent in 2016. Its import share rose up to 64.4 percent and to 75.8 percent last year.
Meanwhile, the second largest import source went to the US, followed by Germany and Thailand in terms of aluminum flat import weight. The import from the US accounted for 2,199 metric tons in January, while from Germany 1,904 metric tons and from Thailand 1,007 metric tons respectively.
