According to SteelHome China Steel Price Index (SHCNSI),
steel price index closed at 98.14 points (4,245 yuan), up 0.81% week on
week or 0.76 point (33 yuan) from last week. Stainless steel price index
(SHCNSI-SS) closed at 67.96 points (14,896 yuan), down 1.51% week on
week or down 0.63 point (137 yuan) from last week.
By Friday, average price of 2.0mm 304/2B cold rolled stainless steel in
eight Chinese cities closed at 15,081 yuan/t, down 182 yuan/t from last
weekend; that of 2.0mm 430/2B cold rolled stainless steel closed at
8,281 yuan/t, down 38 yuan/t from last weekend; that of 2.0mm 201/2B
cold rolled stainless steel (plate) closed at 7,719 yuan/t, unchanged
from last weekend; that of 6.0mm 304/NO.1 hot rolled stainless steel
closed at 14,244 yuan/t, down 75 yuan/t from last weekend; and that of
10.0mm 304/No.1 hot rolled stainless steel closed at 14,638 yuan/t, down
75 yuan/t over last weekend.
In the given time, stainless steel price vibrantly fell. Among them, 304
stainless steel price cumulatively fell by150-200 yuan/t, while 201 cold
rolled stainless steel price and 430 stainless steel price kept stable.
In the given time, international nickel price vibrantly hiked. By the
end of 21 March (Thursday), LME three-month closed at 13,270 dollars/t,
390 dollars/t higher than that in last week.
From transaction aspect, transactions were still sparse, and there are
only partial enterprises active in purchase.
From steel mills aspects, daily settlement price of 2.0mm 304/2B
stainless steel coil produced by TISCO was 15,300 yuan/t, down 200 yuan/t
from last week; that of 2.0mm 430/2B stainless steel coil was 8,450 yuan/t,
up 50 yuan/t from last week; and that of 304 hot rolled steel produced
by Eastern Special Steel was decreased by 50 yuan/t. Now 8.0mm 304/No.1
coil produced by Eastern Special Steel was 14,450 yuan/t.
Although nickel price strongly ran in the week, there is still profit on
early resources. Of this, traders mainly delivered with low price.
SteelHome predicts that stainless steel price is more likely to run in
weak pace in the next week.

Nickel futures price hiked. By Friday, 1# electrolyzed nickel price in
spot market was 103,525 yuan/t, up 175 yuan/t in a week. By Thursday,
LME three-month nickel futures price closed at 13,270 dollars/t, up 390
dollars/t in a week.
Stainless steel market was impacted by plunge of export in February. At
present, stainless steel dynamics still followed with nickel price with
slack demand from terminals. At the same time, nickel price is difficult
to get support from downstream. For nickel ore, supply from Philippine
gradually recovers and domestic nickel ore slightly hiked. Nickel price
was dragged down by release of ferronickel capacity and output recovers.
SteelHome predicts nickel price is more likely to still bear a lot later
on.
