In January, Korea's sales of H-Beam at the domestic market increased largely on a favorable weather condition. H-Beam production was 293,633 metric tons in January, up 8.2 percent on a prior month, but up 2.7 percent on a year earlier, according to Korea Iron and Steel Association. The level of output was not less short than 300,000 tons, exceeding closely 290,000 tons.
Meanwhile, the entire shipment of H-Beam was down 0.9 percent on a month earlier totaling 263,548 metric tons, or up 4.7 percent on a year earlier. Korean shipment increased however 7.1 percent month to month, or 22.9 percent year to year, reaching 179939 metric tons. The EAF mills said that the leading factor to the output increase was due largely to the warmer weather conditions. Meanwhile, the export in January was down 14.6 percent from a preceding month, or down 20.7 percent a year ago, leading to 83,609 metric tons. The inventory of January rose 8.4 percent to 284,693 metric tons.
