It was reported that on April 2nd, 2019, the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) responded to Encore Wire Corporation and Southwire Company, LLC for the petition of China’s exports of aluminum wire and cable countervailing duty investigations to the US had a preliminary affirmative resolution on the results.
The exporters were considered to receive subsidies ranging from 11.57%-164.16%. As a results of the resolution, the USDOC will order the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to collect cash tariffs from importers for the imported aluminum wire and cables from China at a preliminary rate.
The USDOC was expected to issue a final resolution on April 13rd, 2019. If the final resolution was affirmative, the US International Trade Commission (USITC) was also expected to finalize the case on September 26th, 2019.
If the final determination of both the USDOC and the USITC were positive, the USDOC will issue countervailing duties order. If it was negative, the investigation will be terminated and there will be no countervailing duty.
