The Russian steel producers proposed the establishment of a free trade zone between Russia and Turkey at the meeting between Russian and Turkish heads of state. Andrei Varichev, CEO of Metalloinvest, who attended the meeting, asked for cessation of the safeguards investigation initiated by Turkey and emphasized the importance of the free trade zone.
Also, the Russian producers proposed a “preferential trade agreement” that allowed certain products to be excluded to protect interests of the industries that didn't support the liberalization of Turkish products into the Russian market.
