Amid the forecast to slow steel demand, China Iron and Steel Association(CISA) suggested that it is necessary for the industry to develop the steel demand at the 17th Steel Market and International Trade Conference held for April 28~29 in Nanjing. The steel bridges weighs only 1 percent of the Chinese public roads which is far lower than that of Germany(85%), Japan(41%) or US(35%), CISA said.

China’s crude steel consumption is at present 850~900 million tons, expecting to reduce to around 750~800 million tons in 2020~2025, while staying at about 700 million tons over 10 years next since then.

Meanwhile, China’s crude steel production in February increased 9.17 percent the year before, according to the major steel mills. The improvement in output by steel product, crude steel, and pig iron was 8.10%, 9.17% and 9.67% each in February, based on the CISA member-companies. Of which, Bao Steel and Hu Steel crude steel production increased by 2,573 million tons, 5,287 million tons respectively, while Shagang and Angang Steel added 23,800 tons and 96,800 tons respectively. The entire crude steel production in February based on the largest 10 steel mills was 2,043,300 tons, accounting for 46.53 percent of the total crude steel output. This represents 8.70% gain from the year before.
