It was reported that the EU-India's discussions on imported steel products' re-testing didn't work out. The compulsory re-testing on specific stainless steel imports to India with BIS authorized laboratories didn't go well.
The EU requested India should accept the tests executed in foreign accredited laboratories confirming compliance with ISO standards. However, the EU disagreed with India's point of views.
India insisted that the BIS standards were necessary in order to consider the production practices here. The EU requested the Indian authorities to confirm whether these standards were equivalent to the related international standards.
In addition, after the producing mill was verified and the products were certified, the certification should still stay valid if the product was issued to the mill’s service centers and then shipped to India to avoid an unnecessary double certification process.
