Summary of speech
Scrap steel can usually be divided into three categories:
self-produced scrap; processed scrap and depreciated scrap.
Processed scrap and depreciated scrap are collectively referred
to as social scrap. The total consumption of scrap steel and the
comprehensive unit consumption of scrap steel have all reached a
new record. In 2018, the total consumption of scrap steel was
188 million tons, an increase of 39.68 million tons or 26.9%
year-on-year. Scrap consumption was 202.3 kg/t, an increase of
24.5 kg/t or 13.8% year-on-year.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology further
proposed in the “Steel Industry Adjustment Policy” that by 2025,
the scrap ratio of steel making in China should reach 30%.
