The Brazilian government has imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of non-grain-oriented (NGO) electrical steel products from Germany, it announced in its official gazette on Friday July 19.
The duty will be imposed at a rate of $166.32 per tonne, for a period of one year, according to a decision published in the gazette. After this period, the measure may be renewed, changed or suspended.
The main German exporters of NGO electrical steel are ThyssenKrupp and Wälzholz, the Brazilian government said.
Prices for European stainless steel products narrowed upward this week, due to an expectation of higher alloy surcharges for the next month, Fastmarkets has learned.
Fastmarkets' assessment of the price for stainless steel cold-rolled sheet, 2mm, grade 304, transaction domestic, delivered North Europe, was ?2,175-2,200 ($2,444-2,472) per tonne on July 19, narrowing upward by 50 per tonne.
The anti-dumping investigation was launched in mid-2018, after a request from Brazilian stainless steel producer Aperam.
The government also applied anti-dumping tariffs on imports of NGO flat electrical steel from China, Taiwan and South Korea, but later decided to reduce those duties.
