Korean manganese series alloy steel industry recently decided to hold on the high carbon ferro-manganese 73% concentrate offering prices over June at 1,400,000 won a ton and silico manganese 65 percent concentrate at 1,400,000 won a ton respectively. These prices levels are the same as offered a month ago.
The prices standstill is known to reflect the costs amid the steady flows of subsidiary raw materials prices albeit a little bit decline in ore concentrate prices. Meanwhile, manganese series alloy steel prices hiked temporarily over the first half a year ago, but continued steady since the third quarter on the demand constraints coupled with supply in glut.
Although the low key of hikes again in core concentrate prices is projected, manganese alloy steel prices are forecast to be little impacted therefrom. The demand is not expected to recover with the slowing steel industry across the world on the trade tensions that have flared higher recently between the US and China. Silico-manganese prices seem to be addressed by the supply and demand status in China and recently by the changes in the Malaysian materials prices.
Korea’s manages alloy steel imports continue flooded from Malaysia which increased production. Besides, the competition becomes intensifying overseas markets with the Malaysian involvement, thereby the Korean producers look to be buffeted for a while ahead.
In July 2019, the Korean manganese alloy steel prices are expected to slightly drop as the demand is likely to stay flat on the rising market unrest combined with the weakness in the ore concentrate prices as well. Lately, the world manganese ore 44% concentrate prices registered $6.1 a dray metric ton range.
