Korea's domestic aluminum extrusion industry faced hardship last year has hopes of recovery through the construction business remains destructive. The Korea Non-ferrous Metal Association estimated that the 2019 aluminum extrusion consumption would rise 23.7 percent to 278,000 tons, but export down 4.1 percent to 50,000 tons around a year ago.
The domestic aluminum extrusion industry is leading boost thanks to the major companies like Aluco and Namsun Aluminum. Aluco settled the exclusive contract with Hyundai Rotem to offer the trains itself while Namsun Aluminum continues to wrap up the black status since 2014 thanks to the increase of domestic reconstruction orders.
Aluminum extrusion production capacity is estimated around 72,000 tons with Aluco, followed by Shinyang Industries with 60,000 tons, Namsun Aluminum 36,000 tons and Gokang aluminum 30,000 tons capacity respectively. While the export quantities are expected to reduce on the slowed demand for automotive wheel and solar module from overseas, but the sectors like construction and real estate market will contribute to the growth of domestic consumption, the Association predicted. This year’s aluminum extrusion sales are forecast to reach 320,000 tons, a 18.9 percent rise from last year of 269,061 tons. Import also is foreseen to rise 2.3 percent from the lower-effect of the previous year.
