Tata Steel Group, one of the primary steel industry globally with an annual capacity of about 27.5 million tons, planned to set up an Indian first scrap recycling factory in Rohtak, Haryana, cooperating with Aarti Green Tech, which belonged to Aarti Steels.
Tata Steel would like to take the first mover advantage among scrap-based steel producers; furthermore, the group could suffice for the increasing steel demand.
It was expected that Tata Steel could improve and advance the current situation of Indian scrap industry since it was unorganized, fragmented and full of risk to operators’ life and health.
The plant was estimated to begin operation during the next half of the current fiscal year with capacity 5 lakh tons and value Rs 150 crore. Indian steel scrap demand was 30 million tons yearly, of which about 5 million tons were imported from other countries.
