Over the first half of 2019, Korea’s rebar average of stock reduced significantly compared to that of 2018, which maintained over 370,000 tons on average despite the bad weather hit in January and February as well as due to demand contraction. On the other hand, this year’s rebar average stock continued under the proper level of 250,000~300,000 tons over the first half. The shedding pace is faster than the same period last year, when the short supply was serious. The average stock of rebar in the first six months this year recorded 245,000 tons, while the same period last year 372,000 tons, resulting in more than 120,000 tons shorter than a year ago.

The rebar stock for January through March this year was 270,000 tons, 250,000 tons and 250,000 tons each month, but the April and May numbers decreased to 230,000 tons and 210,000 tons respectively, threatening to face with the short supply.

The rebar industry said that “April’s production cut year on year, but the volume of sales was larger instead, but the production figure had somewhat changes largely due to the fire accident occurred in Korea Steel as well as because of a temporary stoppage of Dongkuk Steel’s Incheon factory”. Meanwhile, the Korean rebar inventory stayed around 230,000~240,000 tons early in July through the middle part, which are seemingly 40,000~50,000 tons higher than July’s number of the last year.
