US President Trump mandates to increase the use rate of US-origin steel products in a broad government projects up to not more than 95 percent. It means that the Buy America policy which is designed to force the US-made products in the national projects is expanding to the steel products following the lofty tariffs on steel imports, the steel experts characterized.
President Trump signed July 15 to mandate the use of steel products which are originally made in the US in the infrastructure projects being pushed forward by the administration, AP Press reported. It is reported that President Trump held the signing ceremony at the White House with enterprises representatives representing 50 states invited at the third US Products Show Case on this day. Previously the country of origin was acknowledged if used of 50 percent components which are produced in the US, but the rate was raised up to 75 percent by the executive order this time.
Meanwhile, the US steel industry welcomes the President’s executive order, but the economists concerned that the government budget of infrastructure will be increased if implemented to force the use of US-made steel products.
