According to the announcement from JSW Steel USA, the firm had stopped the modernization project of constructing a new electric arc furnace and slab caster at its plate mill Baytown, Texas.
JSW Steel USA said it had no choice but to hold the project due to the current tough market situation and strict ongoing policies
It was believed that the announcement was made following the US President Donald Trump’s enforcement of a 25% tariff on steel imports.
JSW Steel USA proposed the modernization project in March 2018 with investing US$500 million at its plate Baytown mill, which produced plate and pipe products with imported slabs.
