The supply of coal has changed from a severe shortage to a total surplus of production capacity and a basic balance between supply and demand.
In the 70 years since the founding of New China, China's coal industry has undergone tremendous changes. While the coal production capacity has increased substantially, the coal industry structure has been continuously optimized. The number of coal mines has been reduced from 82,000 in 1997 to less than 5700 at present, and the concentration of the coal industry has also increased greatly.
At the same time, the level of technology and equipment in coal mines has also improved significantly. According to Huang Yuzhi, the degree of mechanization of coal mining and excavation in coal mines nationwide has reached 78.5% and 60.4% respectively.
Coal is the main energy source and an important industrial raw material in China. "Since the founding of New China, as an important basic industry, coal industry has strongly supported the steady and rapid development of China's economy and society." Huang Yuzhi said.
