Arvedi, one of the Italian steelmakers, has been asked by the local government to shut down its Siderurgica Triestina plant, the pig iron production plant located in Trieste, Northern Italy.
The negotiation of reconstruction was under proceeding, and the firm planned to close the plant before 2022. According to local associations, they concerned about the environmental effect on people's health when pig iron production and the plant didn't follow up the EU’s regulations on carbon emission reduction.
Based on the previous environmental agreement, the highest output of Arvedi's pig iron plant was about 400,000 tons per year.
