Luo Huining, secretary of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial People's Congress, said that since the founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago, Shanxi has produced a total of 19.2 billion tons of coal, accounting for more than a quarter of China's total. Among them, 70% are transferred to other provinces, covering more than two-thirds of the provinces in China.
In the past two years, the coal industry in Shanxi Province has grown at an average annual rate of 1.9%, far below the national growth level. The average annual growth rate of manufacturing industry is 9%, and industrial clusters such as information technology and high-end equipment are rapidly rising.
In 2018, the proportion of coal in the industry fell by 2.5 percentage points. It is expected that by 2022, the historical reversal of the proportion of industrial manufacturing and coal industry will be realized.
Luo Huining pointed out that Shanxi is a big coal province, but nowadays, Shanxi has firmly embarked on the path of resource-based economic transformation and development. The emerging industries have risen rapidly and Shanxi’s dependence on coal has been reduced.
