The total coal resources in Xinjiang are about 2.2 trillion tons, accounting for 40% of China, ranking first in China. Since the 21st century, the structure of Xinjiang's coal industry has been continuously optimized and the level of modernization has increased significantly.
In 2018, raw coal output in Xinjiang reached 190 million tons, second only to Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia. As of the end of June 2019, there were 207 coal mines in Xinjiang (excluding the Corps), with an approved annual production capacity of 307.72 million tons. By 2020, the output of coal in Xinjiang will reach 250 million tons.
Xinjiang has abundant coal resources and a long history of mining. It has a history of 2,000 years and is one of the earliest areas of coal development in China.
