As part of the environmental plan, the demolition of the No. 3 blast furnace in the former Ilva plant of ArcelorMittal had finished the first phase of work, this blast furnace had been idle for about 25 years.
It took four months to accomplish the first phase of the decommissioning project.
The second phase was expected to be completed by April 2022. Before the Ilva plant had been taken over in 2018, ArcelorMittal was advised by the buyer to make an environmental plan for Ilva plant. No. 3 blast furnace decommissioning project was one part of the plan.
ArcelorMittal has begun the construction of a sewage treatment plant after the first phase of the blast furnace decommissioning project was completed which would be serving for the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 blast furnaces.
The three blast furnaces each have a sewage treatment plant with a sand filter. According to the manufacturer's press release, this new facility consisted of a water tank and a decanter centrifuge which ensure the further purification process before the wastewater enters the drain.
