According to the data from Brazil Steel Institute (Instituto Aço Brasil, IABr), Brazil produced around 2.7 million tons of crude steel in August, hiking by 6.5% compared to the same month a year ago.
During the period, the production of finished steel totaled around 1.82 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4%; that of semi-finished steel was around 630,000 tons, a year-on-year hike of 3.8%. The domestic shipment of finished steel had a year-on-year increase of 2%, reaching around 1.7 million tons.
IABr said that Brazil’s capacity utilization was still low at 63% although the domestic market condition has improved.
