The South American crude steel output witnessed marginal increase in September 2020. The regional output edged higher marginally by 0.9% from 3.180 million tonnes (Mt) in September 2019 to 3.210 Mt in September this year.
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) production data indicates that Brazil’s output totalled 2.574 Mt, modestly higher by 7.5% when matched with 2.394 Mt in the same month a year before. Argentina- the second largest producer saw its steel output drop substantially by nearly 12% to 358,000 tonnes. In third place was Colombia, whose output was estimated at 110,000 tonnes. The other primary producers were Chile (95,000 tonnes), Ecuador (35,000 tonnes) and Peru (30,000 tonnes).
