As SteelHome contacts introduce,
seaborne steel buyers are gradually returning to market, while
transactions haven’t been largely finalized. The current export prices
of steel products are lower than that in mid and late December 2020.
According to SteelHome website, private mills joined the move to lower
export quotations from end of December, while leading mills have stopped
the offering.
This week, medium plate export
price is roughly 680-685 dollars per ton (FOB), a slight decline in
transaction price. One mill located in East China quotes its HRC at 650
dollars per ton (FOB), lower than the offer quoted before New Year
Holiday. The mill also introduces that it has raised the export price of H
beam as its production cost has climbed up and the product was overbooked
in December. The prevailing quotation of H beam is 620-670 dollars per ton
(FOB).
In comparison, international steel
prices keep rising. Indian mills are heard to continue to raise the
ex-works prices, and the uptick in European market is ongoing. Therefore,
Chinese steel products are enjoying price advantage in world market, with
export shipments to be gradually warming up.
