Due to insufficient power supply during this winter, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) decided to limit the power supply, requesting large-scale manufacturing, including electric-arc furnace (EAF) plants, to reduce electricity consumption.
However, the decision might impact the scrap consumption and steel production at the EAF plants, which will further restrain scrap prices in the short term.
It was understood that part of steel mills in the Kanto region have been closed or planned to suspend some steelmaking facilities.
