Last year’s stainless flat HR production overall increased but its sales volume decreased amid over two digits contraction of domestic demand. Domestic stainless HR output last year edged up 0.4 percent from 1,066,412 tons a year ago to 1,022,752 tons, according to the Korea Iron and Steel Association. Domestic shipment in particular decreased 11.6 percent from 302,531 tons to 267,470 tons, while export demand also inched down 1.1 percent from 763,881 tons to 755,282 tons respectively. Although production figure climbed, but export dropped countered by the slowed domestic demand, the statistics assumed.
Meanwhile, stainless flat CR production decreased slightly, but the domestic demand increased a little which appeared to be due partly to the domestic sales boosted and consequently decreased export.
Stainless CR output totaled 1,175,858 tons, down 3.8 percent from 1,222,113 tons of 2018. Sales volume thereof also downed 0.3 percent from 1,208,017 tons to 1,204,342 tons, while domestic consumption rose by 0.3 percent from 724,184 tons to 726,425 tons and export demand was down 1.2 percent from 483,833 tons to 477,917 tons respectively.
