Australia's thermal coal exports to China dropped to a nine-year low in September, at only 1.2 million tonnes, falling nearly 2 million tonnes on the year, impacted by Beijing's move to curb imported coal from Australia.
Among the country's total 14.7 million tonnes of thermal coal exports in September, which contracted 14.6% year on year, India took 1.1 million tonnes, hitting a six-year high, rising 876,000 tonnes on the year.
While Australia's thermal coal exports to Japan and South Korea also declined, leading to a fall in the nation's total export.
In the month, Australia shipped 5.4 million tonnes of thermal coal to Japan, falling almost 440,000 tonnes year on year. Exports to South Korea plunged 1.1 million tonnes to 2.6 million tonnes.
Over the same period, Australian exports to Vietnam fell 273,000 tonnes to 620,000 tonnes.
