Hi everyone, welcome to SteelHome Podcast. As we
know, World Steel Association on Tuesday publishes global crude steel
production in 2020. The combined production of 64 nations, traded by the
steel association, totaled 1.829 billion tons, a drop of 0.9 percent on
yearly basis.
The top ten producing countries are China, India,
Japan, Russia, USA, South Korea, Turkey, Germany, Brazil and Iran.
China, reporting 1.05 billion tons of crude steel
production, takes the lead in the rank and hit the record. 2020 witnessed
the effectively-contained Covid-19 infections and the robustly growing
demand in domestic market, which contributes the steel production in the
country.
India
produced 99.57 million tons of crude steel, falling below than 100 million
tons for first time in recent four years.
Japan
suffered a drop of 16.2 percent to 83.19 million tons; similarly, USA’s
production was down by 17.2 percent to 72.69 million tons. The two nations
were badly hit by widely-spread coronavirus, which generates the stumbling
recovery.
Iran
produced 29.03 million tons, up 13.4 percent. The increment in domestic
demand and the improvement in export market triggered the Middle East
nation.
Last
but not least, let’s have our eyes on Vietnam, which generated 19.50
million tons of crude steel in 2020 and ranked 14th in the
world. With newly-built capacity put into operation, Vietnam’s steel
production reported annual 2-3.5 million tons of addition in recent four
years.
What
is the development in 2021 crude steel production in the world? Let’s
wait and see.
