The American Iron and Steel Institute reported that for the week ending on February 20, 2021, domestic raw steel production was 1,745,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 77.0%. Production was 1,880,000 net tons in the week ending February 20, 2020 while the capability utilization then was 81.3%. The current week production represents a 7.2% decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending February 20, 2021 is up 0.1% from the previous week ending February 13, 2021 when production was 1,743,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.9 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through February 20, 2021 was 12,553,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.1%. That is down 8.5% from the 13,717,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 81.9%.
Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week ending February 20, 2021 in thousands of net tons: North East: 153; Great Lakes: 637; Midwest: 183; Southern: 700 and Western: 72 for a total of 1745.
