According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 720,000 tons of slab in January, surging by 898.4% compared to the previous month while decreasing by 26.6% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, the imports from Brazil accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 549,000 tons, compared to zero in the previous month and around 811,000 tons in January 2020. The other import sources included Mexico (around 95,000 tons), Russia (around 44,600 tons), Canada (around 26,900 tons), and Japan (around 2,800 tons).
