According to statistics, Japan exported a total of 614,000 tons of ferrous scrap in March this year, rising by nearly 20% compared to the previous month while dropping by 15.5% from the same month a year ago. The figure rose back to the high level recorded in July 2021.
Among them, the exports to South Korea had a year-on-year hike as South Korean buyers had more demand for Japan’s scrap after supplies from Russia were interrupted.
The exports to Vietnam and Taiwan were 50% of the number in the same month a year ago due to weaker scrap demand caused by lower steel sales and the competition from US containerized scrap.
