According to statistics from the US International Trade Commission (USITC), the US exported around 1.66 million tons of scrap in April this year, rising by 28% compared to the previous month and also hiking by 1.7% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, the exports to Mexico accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 436,300 tons, a month-on-month increase of 36% and a year-on-year growth of 78%. Other major destinations of US scrap exports included Turkey (around 433,500 tons), Taiwan (around 145,300 tons), South Korea (around 98,100 tons), and Canada (around 82,100 tons).
During the period, the export volume was worth approximately US$831 million, up by 37.3% month on month and by 41% year on year.
