According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the first five months of this year, Turkey imported a total of around 858,000 tons of billet and bloom, dropping by 47% compared to the corresponding period a year ago. The import value during the period was down by 32% to around US$646.4 million.
Among them, the top three import sources were Russia (around 494,500 tons, a year-on-year drop of 45.8%), Ukraine (around 88,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 66.2%), and India (around 49,400 tons, a year-on-year hike of 65.1%).
In May alone, Turkey's billet and bloom imports amounted to approximately 253,500 tons, up by 26% month on month but sliding by 25.6% year on year. These imports were worth US$201.5 million, a month-on-month increase of 26% and a year-on-year reduction of 5.7%.
