According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the first eight months of this year, Turkey's hot-rolled coil (HRC) imports totaled nearly 3 million tons, dropping by 9.6% compared to the corresponding period a year ago. The import volume was worth around US$2.7 billion during the period, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%.
Among them, the top three import destinations were Russia (around 737,000 tons, a year-on-year drop of 47%), India (around 538,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 38.8%), and China (around 490,000 tons, a year-on-year jump of 384%).
In August alone, Turkey imported roughly 316,000 tons of HRC, down by 33% month on month and by 20% year on year. The import value was approximately US$272 million, a month-on-month decrease of 38% and a year-on-year drop of 32%.
