According to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), Turkey’s scrap imports totaled around 1.36 million tons in January this year, rising by 8% compared to the preceding month and down by 46% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, imports from the EU accounted for 55.2% of Turkey’s total scrap imports, followed by the US’ 18% and the UK’s 9.5%.
In 2022, Turkey’s scrap imports dropped by 16.5% year on year to 20.9 million tons. The decrease was due to the low workload at local steel mills in the second half of 2022.
